There were 4 rigs from the OTR club to run the trails this past weekend in
Johnson Valley. It was me, Tony F., John C. and Keith L.
John & I arrived Friday night about 8pm and Tony & Keith arrived about 11pm.
The weather was real nice all weekend.
We camped just off the dry lake bed, virtually straight across the dry lake
from the trail head.
Damian and his friend came out Saturday morning to cheer us on and watch the
carnage. :-)
The trail proved to be pretty challenging. There were some big holes and if
you are not familiar with this trail many of the rocks on this trail can
move. Therefore, the trail changes with each vehicle through it.
IMO 37's are the bare minimum on that trail. All my work to flat belly the
t-case skid paid off last Saturday (I'll give my RTD system a little credit
too)!
It seemed to me to be the small edge my rig had over Keith & Johns in the
big rocks. Don't get me wrong we all made it. Fiori made it the easiest on
his gummy 39's, a little tougher for me, and so on. In fact, I remember
hearing someone say "I can't ever remember winching so much" to get up the
trail.
We got a late start Saturday morning - now I know what you are thinking, oh
that Tony P. was lagging again. Nope! It was John Cary this time. :-)
We were at the mail box where Jack & Sledge meet by about 2:30 but, we had a
big group that had just come off Sledgehammer and we clogging up the exit.
Which put us back at camp by about 4:30pm.
We had Happy Hour and bench raced for an hour or so and then cooked dinner.
Oh yeah, we watched a movie out by the campfire on Fiori's outdoor TV. John
broke out the cookies and you could have stuck a fork in any one of us. We
were done, :-)
Sunday we cruised around the area to check out a few different trails and
play around a little. Back door looks pretty tough!
After that we loaded up, caravanned back and caught lunch together on the
way home.
A good weekend of wheel'n with friends!
