Well this was a very nice trip! We had 11 Jeeps,14 people and 3 dogs and so much fun that many want to make this illegal.
We started out going up Slant Ranch. With a large group I was wondering how good of time we were going to make. But we made a lot of ground fast. There was only one hiccup when Russ's CJ died and wouldn't start. He thought his gas gauge was not working. Turns out it worked fine he was out of gas. Luckily Dirtdawg had a 5 gallon can that was full. Once he had gas we were off. The waterfall at the top made for some nice photo's. There was some nice 3 wheel shots. We all made it up in short order. Only 1 needed to be strapped. We set out for Opel canyon. We stopped for lunch at Cuddy Camp. The weather was just about perfect! Blue sky's no wind and it was warm. It reached the 70's. After lunch we went into Last Chance Canyon headed towards Bickel Camp. We stopped to look at a brown tarantula that was on the trail. Of all the times I have been out in this area I have not seen one. It was pretty cool.
We went to some talc mines and hung out there for a bit. We put a few more gallons of gas into Russ's Jeep. Then we went to Bickel camp. Mark the docent was telling us stories and showing us around. Damien, who had Keith ridding shotgun needed to leave. Then we went to Burro Schmidt tunnel. With the daylight we had left, I wanted to get to a adopt-a-cabin before the sunset. So we made our way there. The timing was about perfect. We had time to look around the cabin and enjoy the wonderful view of the valley before it was to dark. Then we made our way along the ridge to look down on the Burro Schmidt camp. We arrived at the pavement to get aired up right before dark. We passed out the last of the 5 cards for the poker run. I believe it was 2 pair that had the best hand. With darkness upon us we headed out. Some stopped in Mojave for pizza and some headed home.
Thanks for coming everyone, Sarah and I had a blast. Looking forward to the next run.
