Sedona Expedition 2015

Monday
We headed out on Sycamore Cyn. Trail out of Clarksdale. We discovered a Japanese Retreat called Sedona Mago Retreat in the middle of no where. It a had a large wrought iron gate so we couldn’t enter the compound. Also there were totem poles circling a tree. We then headed to Sedona to run the famous Broken Arrow trail. We found a quiet location for lunch at the top of the trail when we were invaded with Pink Jeeps filled with (Spring Break) tourist. We ran this trail forward and reverse. The scenery was incredible. We then headed for Sedona town to browse the shops and had cocktails on the veranda overlooking Bell Rock. We returned to camp for Rics Happy Hour.

Tuesday
We passed through the town of Jerome and visited a Ghost Town owned by an old miner Don Robertsons (who lives there). Then we explored the back country where we could see snow cap mountains in Flagstaff. We kept driving on open range where we encountered cows, Burma bulls and several deer. We returned to Old Town Cottonwood and had dinner at the “Wild Hogs BBQ”. We then had another Happy Hour at Rics RV.

Wednesday
“April Fools Day” we visited Sedona Airport Loop that is located on a Mesa overlooking the town and its Red Rock mountains. This is where one of the spiritual vortex is located. We then drove to visit the “Chapel of the Holy Cross” that is built into the red rock mountain. Eventually we ran “Greasy Spoon Trail” where we encountered a 4 foot rattler snake. We were enjoying the great trail to ourselves when suddenly we were invaded by a caravan of more “Pink Jeeps”. We then returned to camp for Rics water melon margaritas for Happy Hour and potluck dinner.

Thursday
We visited Montezuma Wells and Montezuma Castle Cliff Dwellings. After seeing the ancient monuments, we headed to Old Town Cottonwood to browse the stores. We returned to Rics RV for Happy Hour where we were joined with our Canadian neighbors for margaritas.

Friday
On our final day we started the morning off with Rics delicious pancake breakfast. We packed our lunches and headed for the famous Smasher Cyn. Trail out of Clarksdale. It took a while to find the trailhead even with the help of a “local” rock crawler. There we got our obstacle fix. We saved the best for the last. Bill joined us for Happy Hour. Ric made another of his famous “Strawberry” margaritas.

Saturday
We packed up and said our goodbyes.

This trip had something for everybody.

Pics to follow.
