Slant Ranch DAY Run
Trip Report – Slant Ranch 10/15/2011
We met at Porter Ranch Pn’R and headed out around 6:45. It was great seeing 15 jeeps in convoy heading up the highway.
We arrived at the trailhead around 9, aired down and headed up the trail. A few jeeps were not locked in the front and they did a great job on the trail and. Some used the bypasses on the harder obstacles.
Mike W. helped spot at a few. A few guests learned what the feeling is when one tire is several feet in the air.
Mike B brought his daughter and managed to get air a few times, but we never heard a scream from the passenger side. Take time to view the pictures and videos Mike and Damien took on the ride.
And Russ did not run out of gas.
Many questions were asked by the guests about how a line was determined through the obstacle, and a few learned about throttle control.
The last waterfall was a lot of fun. We had to strap only the non-locked front axle vehicles.
At the top we had lunch overlooking Nightmare Gulch. Nice view, with a breeze keeping the temp down.
We went down Nightmare Gulch Overlook trail to the RedRock/Randburg road where Damien and Yas, along with Mike and Nicole, left us. And headed up Last Chance.
Last Chance had some recent water leaving a lot of rocks in the trail, making it more than a sandy drive, as it has been in the past. Most did the V-notch. From there we headed up the Canyon and visited one mine homestead and out to the 14 for airing up.
On the way back we stopped at Nicks’ Pizza, in Lancaster, for some good eats.
I think the only breakage was a bent HiLift. The only equipment problem was a reversed front spring shackle.
All in all, a great trip. It was great to have so many on the trail.
If I missed any thing – chime in.
