Daytripper Scott and Sarah
Most arrived Friday afternoon to outstanding weather, which carried through the weekend.
Friday eve. dinner was at Idle Spurs on Old Hiway 58.
Saturday, Scott and Sarah arrived around 9 and we left for Odessa. After climbing up the washed out road section, Keith’s jeep died. The engine would crank and start and then stop when you released the key for running. After some sleuthing by several of us and only eliminating possibilities, we called Damien. Same thing, no luck in keeping the jeep running.
Our plan was to go up Odessa and down Duran and then the gatekeeper. So I towed Keith out over Mule and the rest followed, deciding to now go up Duran. After dropping Keith’s jeep off we went up Duran, bypassing the gatekeeper. Both trails had been washed out so it was a new trail for us and definitely a little more difficult than the previous. After Duran we came down and went to the Gatekeeper. It was definitely more difficult that previous trips. Sand was washed out with some interesting holes. Jeff and I were the only two to try it. Our wider wheel base was a definite advantage.
Back at the ranch we had Beer 30 snacks and left for Peggy Sue’s for din din. Scott had left after Duran and headed home.
Sunday morning most left and Keith, riding with me, and Ric and Lisa headed out for a trail they were on last trip. The trail starts off the Fort Irwin Rd. and ends at the mines above Duran. We saw some great areas with a little rock crawling, but mostly desert fire roads. The last part of the trail was washed out and we ended up having to modify part of it so we could make it all the way through. Ended up back a camp around 12:30 and headed home.
I know some of you took some great pics, so please post.
