-HAM radios is the topic. Especially for the new members. It is the preferred radio and less people are on it. You are supposed to have a license to run the HAM radio. To use a HAM radio, you are supposed to have a license and it lasts 10 years. You do not need to retest, just renew it before it expires. There are 35 multi choice point test, you need to get 25 correct to pass. Brian passed around a link to take sample tests. You will learn things when you study for the test. How fast do radio waves travel? Speed of light. The club frequency is 146550. Our frequency is about 2 meters long. You can program your radio to talk to a repeater and a different frequency, and it would go farther. We don’t really do that though. If you are on a hand held, it will bounce off things, you can change the orientation by moving slightly and find you can talk farther. Don’t talk into the microphone, put some distance so we can understand you.

Safety Officer: Mike Sidlinger
-When people volunteer to lead a run, before you do, please think about:
Liability Releases- when people have guests, they need to sign the release.
Caravan – make sure everyone knows the location of where they are taking off and have a full gas tank. Let them know the time of departure. If someone is late, maybe wait 15 min for a late person.
Bob Boltner would have contact info for fire and rescue so if someone happened on a run, he would have it. If you are going in the forest, call a local ranger to get contact info in case of emergency.
Before starting trail, make sure all drivers have a radio. If they do not have one, a lot of members have multiple, so they can borrow. Appoint someone to be the tail end driver. While you are on the trail, keep track of all the Jeeps.
When everyone is airing up, make sure everyone’s Jeep is able to get home safely. Let the leader know when you are leaving.
