Shredder Canyon
Shredder Canyon - 06-29-08
Prepared by Robert King
Tony Pellegrino, James Freeman and I started out at the Gen Right Parking lot at 5:30am. We hit the freeway and headed out to meet up with the rest of the group at the 14 freeway and Sand Canyon. There we met up with Jim Cox, Scrambler Doug & Supermex Daniel. John Cary & Stewart Crawford also caught up with us at this stop.
Once everyone was accounted for we hit the freeway heading to Burger Basket where we meet up with Rich Wohlers, Keith & Alex Lyon, Ric Freymond and a few of the High Desert 4 Wheelers. I at this time I had a date with a breakfast burrito.
We then rounded up the group and headed over to the trailhead. Once everyone aired down and unloaded the trailers we all lined up for a day of 100 degree California sunshine on the trail. Lucky, we did have a slight breeze.
Shredder has changed a lot since my last visit seven or eight years ago with limited slip locker & 31" tires. There were plenty of options and fun lines to be had. Tony P set the pace looking for the big boy lines with Jerome Blunck, John Cary, Keith Lyon, James Freeman, Ric Freymond and a list of others to follow.
It was a hurry up and wait trail run with a few "Green Seaters" not knowing the 3 strikes your out rule. Someone really needs to write a "Trail Etiquette" handbook. But enough about that...back to the action.
We did have some trail carnage....one TJ Computer was fried due to an alternator positive post rubbing on the K & N intake hood. We also had one XJ roll over. No one was hurt and the XJ sustained minimal damage and even finished the trail without a windshield. Richard Hunt bought out his trials bike and had a few dabs as well as some arm rash . I even suffered from mechanical problems. My water pump seized up, blew a hose and I even managed to snap the belt. But Tony P came to my rescue with the trailer and got us home safe.
My last count was 27 Jeeps, 2 Toyota's and 1 trials bike (Richard Hunt). All in all it was a great day and I look forward to wheeling with everyone again.
