Last Chance Canyon
There was a great turn out. Myself,Mike and his son Chris,Eric,Jerome
and his wife,Jed,Damien and Yas,Russ, Jeff Lardner,Ric, and Derek. We
met John at the Jawbone ranger station.
We ran Slant Ranch stopping along the way to get some action shots
and pass out a card or two for the poker run for those that wanted to
play.
The weather was nice in the canyons for the most part. But on the
rideges the wind was strong and cold. After we ran Slant we went to
the Talc mine and got a few group shots. Then we went down Nightmare
Gulch Overlook, which led us back down to pavement about 200 yards
for the start of Slant Ranch.
We headed over to Last Chance Canyon for lunch. We went into the
canyon far enought to find a sunny spot and a place where the wind
was not to strong.
After lunch we headed up the canyon. We stopped to put a couple of
plugs in Jeds tire. (Procomps) Then we played in the V-notch for a
bit. Got some great shots. Then we took a route to Burro Schmidt that
no one in the group had taken. It shaved off a few miles. Once we
were at the tunnel some went thru while others hid in the tunnel
entrance to escape the wind. I notice that Jose who is the caretaker
at Bickel Camp has his motor home at the Burro Schmidt camp. Saw him
walking around. Not sure if he is the care taker for that camp too or
not.
Then we headed down for pavement stopping near pavement to air up,
change Jed's tire and exchange gifts for the poker players. There
were some nice gifts exchanged. Just make sure you bring a nice gift
for these things. Jed drew last and he ended up with the gift he
brought. Same thing happened to Damien a few years ago. A big THANK
YOU goes out to everyone who could make it. Looking forward to next
time.
