JV Rookie Run
We had 8 vehicles, Richard & Kristen, Rich & Corky, Tony P & sons, Tom & Tommy, Derek & Friends, Jed & Kat, Jerome and Rick. Folks rolled in throughout the day on Friday. Talk about GREAT weather. It was about as nice as I've ever seen it in JV. We headed out at about 8:30 Tony time (9:15) and ran Lower Big Johnson and Claw Hammer. No major issues, but Jed sidewalled a tire. We stopped at the top and had lunch, then Rich W. Richard and Jed went and did the old section of Claw Hammer which was kind of like driving up a slip and slide. We all made it back to camp at about 4:30. Appetizers and Margaritas were had. Tony almost laughed himself into the hospital, although no one can remember why. It was another perfect evening around the campfire. On Sunday half the group packed up and Rich W., Richard, Jed and Derek went over to Turkey Claw... a relatively new Hammer trail. We got up to a point where we decided that it may be a bit much for a rookie run, especially for a group with 35" tires and the desire not to can open their rigs. We turned back around and ran the trail back to the bottom, which wasn't exactly a cake walk either. I can't wait to get back to Turkey Claw with some 40's! By the time we got back to camp the wind had picked up so we packed up and headed out as quickly as possible. It was a GREAT Run!
