CORVA Truckhaven Challenge
January 22, 2010

After much going back and forth whether we were going or not, several of us went to the Truckhaven Challenge.
Included were Tory Viso, Eric Bernocco, Damien Smith and Carol and Jeff Sanders. Jeff left his Jeep at home and rode with Damien. Carol managed camp while we were gone.
Eric and Tory spent Friday night at his shack in Palm Springs and the rest of us stayed at the camp.
On Friday we were assigned the closest checkpoint, as we were there first, and went out to find it. It had rained considerably Thursday so it was sort of sloppy. We were following a trail when it dead-ended in a canyon. Tory learned the advantage of having tall tires stop you from rolling over. A few sandstone rocks and we were on our way again. We found the checkpoint and decided to follow the trail until time forced us to return to camp.
CORVA decided that afternoon to change the event from self led to a follow the leader as several vehicles were having problems on the trail (stuck, rollovers, etc.)
That led to having the checkpoints in camp.
They left on the trail Saturday 10:00 am and returned a few hours later with a few accidents but no injuries. We had gone on the trail earlier to get the signs for the checkpoint and bring them back to camp. The weather Saturday was absolutely great. No clouds, slight breeze and temps in the 60's.
The Jeeps were covered with wet sand.
Our checkpoint had a dart game. The games went on until 5.
At that time everyone left and I stayed for the drawing. The club was recognized several times for helping with the event. I won a 3 gal gas can, degreaser and chain lube. The big item was a set of 5 Goodrich tires up to 37" delivered to your door.
I left after the drawing an stayed at Morongo (no gambling) and came home Sunday.
